Clearly some major things happened in the meantime that are only mentioned in manner-of-fact ways, including, so far in Chapter 2: Troi got pregnant, and miscarried, troi is pregnant again, The Borg attacked the UFP in a wide scale assault, many of the crew are no longer with us, Titan was forced to end her exploration to fight the borg, and probably more.
