I liked Gods of Night. Mack tells the story of the Borg just randomly appearing all throughout Federation space and the battle across multiple quadrants to fight them very interestingly. He goes through a series of 4 chapters at a time, one with each ship/Captain, Enterprise/Picard, Titan/Riker, Aventine/Dax, and one with a flashback to the early 22nd century and the Columbia (NX-02) captained by Ericka Hernedez.

It starts right in the middle of things, so I'm not 100% sure if this is where the Borg attack starts or if there was some other earlier portion of the "Star Trek Relaunch" I should have read to get the whole story, but all-in-all a well told tale. I really am not convinced the Columbia part was absolutely necessary to the story, and much could have been included in the Dax story about the Aventine finding the Columbia, though based on the ending maybe it will be necessary in book 2, we will have to see.

I was spoiled to part of the Titan storyline having already read Over a Torrent Sea.
