almost 3/4 of the way through and I'm starting to think everyone is going to die.

He's still only in his boyhood and he already is making himself sound like a horrible person while trying to talk about how great he is. This "Winning is everything" isn't even good for adults, let alone kids.

The idea that he wasn't allowed to eat if his team lost sounds like abuse, so it might not all be his fault.

I liked this one better than the first one, maybe because I didn't have a movie to compare it to.

I found the story interesting in that Roz was able to survive in a whole new way, and was able to help people and continue to make new friends and the like. While the story is somewhat predictable, though it might not be if this is your first introduction to our wild robot, but fun just the same.

The audiobook read by Kathleen McInerney was well done. I often find lady narrators annoying, but McInerey was delightful to listen to. I actually shed a couple tears, after just a few weeks ago thinking about how a book had never made me cry (though I cry at movies at lot).

Recommended, especially if you have young people to read it with.

This was an interesting story. I'm surprised that I have never heard of the Black Legion prior to listening to this audio book, particularly considering how much of my adult life I have spent in metro Detroit. But the author himself indicates he similarly didn't find people who knew about it doing his research in the 'burbs.

I kept expecting there to be more of a connection between the legion and the Tigers, but there really wasn't. It really could have been two different books, one about the championship season(s) of Detroit and one on the Black Legion, but it was somewhat interesting trying to tie the two histories told concurrently, just as they would have been in real life, but how many other historical events could have been tied in too.

I liked Gods of Night. Mack tells the story of the Borg just randomly appearing all throughout Federation space and the battle across multiple quadrants to fight them very interestingly. He goes through a series of 4 chapters at a time, one with each ship/Captain, Enterprise/Picard, Titan/Riker, Aventine/Dax, and one with a flashback to the early 22nd century and the Columbia (NX-02) captained by Ericka Hernedez.

It starts right in the middle of things, so I'm not 100% sure if this is where the Borg attack starts or if there was some other earlier portion of the "Star Trek Relaunch" I should have read to get the whole story, but all-in-all a well told tale. I really am not convinced the Columbia part was absolutely necessary to the story, and much could have been included in the Dax story about the Aventine finding the Columbia, though based on the ending maybe it will be necessary in book 2, we will have to see.

I was spoiled to part of the Titan storyline having already read Over a Torrent Sea.

I put this one in my queue to learn more about football hooliganism. Bill Gardner was a major hooligan in the 70s-80s in England, supporter West Ham FC.

It wasn't really what I was hoping for. It contained lots of inside jargon and took for advantage that you knew some of the stuff I was looking to learn. Plenty of interesting stories from Bill and his compatriots, and a few of his foes. If you are already familiar with the existence of Bill and the world of hooliganism it would probably be a good read.

It was written by Bill and another football supporter, not literary geniuses. All-and-all, OK.

I liked this book. SG-1 meets a new society called "The Pack" a conglomeration of various races that have escaped the system lords and live a nomadic lifestyle across the galaxy. The Vice President decides it is a great opportunity for him to negotiate an intergalactic trade agreement. An intruder tries to blow up the SGC and calamity ensues.

An interesting perspective if somewhat predictable, for example I figured out who the father of the intruder was about 2 chapters before the characters did. I know this book is about 20 years old now, but I was still surprised at the use of anti-Roma stereotypes, such as describing The Pack as "gypsies."

Had all the highlights that make Stargate fun including deadpan humor fantastical ancient-astronaut theory technology and the like.

I did not really like this book. It was certainly a product of its time, including assuming the reader was familar with recent events like the non-violent resistance the Czecholsovokians utilized against the invading Soviet army. The athour frequently referenced "the literature" while he did include a reference in the books, but it was so academic to almost be pointless for the real world.

My wife kept making fun of me that I was listening to the boxcar children. Other than a similar name and written in the earlier 1900s they have nothing in common. A nice family from London is changed overnight when the police take dad to jail. Since they are a nice English family, they keep the reason for dad's disappearance a secret even from their own kids. They move to the country, and the kids befriend the adults in town because now they are too poor to go to school. The kids have various adventures and there is a happy ending. What more can you want?

I cannot recommend the particular Tantor Unabridged Classics edition I listened too. It was like CD on demand rather than a properly manufactured disc and my CD player got all screwy not knowing what track it was on etc. I addition the narrator, in addition to having a kind of annoying voice herself, instead of making a deeper voice for male characters she just got really loud. My kids in the car really hated it as it would just be booming all of a sudden so I would turn it down and then it would get super quiet again as soon as narration return.
